(More customer reviews)I purchased this hand net specifically for catching blue shell crabs, and to replace my existing worn out hand net. It is 3" wider and 5" longer than my previous net, but the added width and length now make it easier to catch those large stubborn and hard-to-catch crabs which often have their claws extended when attempting to scoop them up.

I was a bit concerned and leery at first prior to purchasing this item that the 30" depth netting would be a problem and cause the crabs to become majorly entangled and make extracting the crabs extremely difficult. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find how easily the crabs are removed from this net -- Simply turn the net inside out, give a few shakes, and the crab drops out into my bucket. In fact, I find removing the crabs from this net to be easier than my with previous net. Of course, like with any crab, some are bound to become entangled in the netting from time to time. But, a little disentanglement by hand and a few quick shakes and they drop right out.

As with my previous hand net, I attached and screwed this hand net onto an extra-long extendable swimming pool cleaning pole for that added reach in making crabbing possible and easier when standing above where a pond or stream passes and flows beneath a road, or where wading in the water is not possible or safe.

As with any hand net, this net does not perform well scooping crabs which are perched on or in-between rocks or in areas heavily laded on the bottom with raised stones and rocks. In sandy-bottom areas, or in areas with minimal, low-lying or flat rocks where scooping is not overly hampered it performs quite well.

I am quite pleased and satisfied with the performance of this hand net, as with the rugged aluminum hoop construction and its durable netting!

I would recommend this hand net to anyone who enjoys blue shell crabbing as much as I do! But remember, no crab hand net on the market will guarantee that you will catch a crab at every attempt -- especially when it comes to the elusive lightning speed of the blue shell crab!
